International Exchange

The Faculty / Graduate School of Health Sciences, Okayama University, has been conducting international exchange systematically and strategically. The purpose of promoting international exchange includes two main aspects. The first is to provide an opportunity to compare the Japanese healthcare system with global standards and to consider what is needed to cultivate internationally-thinking? medical professionals. Second is to provide a good opportunity to reconsider the nomination of the Faculty / Graduate School of Health Sciences, Okayama University, in the era of internationalization of health, medicine, and welfare. Through these international exchanges, we support the development of professionals who will lead a new era in a globalized society.

Training in Northeast Thailand

Around September each year, six university students will participate in a five-day training program led by two faculty teachers. This activity began in 2006 and has been ongoing for a long time. The Faculty of Health Sciences, Okayama University, has an interdepartmental agreement with Srimahasarakham Nursing College in Thailand, Maha sarakham, which allows for substantial university visits and exchanges with students. In addition, the student also visits Thai general hospitals, alternative healthcare facilities, villages and households to learn about the current state of community health. In recent years, six students from Srimahasarakham Nursing College come to Okayama University every year to learn about each country's culture, medicine, and welfare.
We have sent students to Thailand 13 times and accepted students from Thailand 6 times. Although on-site training was impossible from 2020 to 2022 due to COVID-19, this activity was continued online.

Short-term training

The Graduate School of Health Sciences began an exchange program with Norman Bethune Health Science Center of Jilin University in 2018. In the first year, 10 students and two faculty teachers from Jilin University came to our campus to attend student lectures at the Department of Health Sciences, lectures on medical research, seminars on advanced research at Okayama University Hospital, and to participate in an international symposium on immunology held in the Shikata campus. The program is conducted to provide students to experience with lectures on medicine and learn Japanese culture for approximately five days.

Workshop for young scientists

June. 7. 2022 “Trouble Counseling Workshop”

OB01

The Faculty / Graduate School of Health Sciences, Okayama University, has established a working group (Workshop for young scientists) to support young researchers. The first event was held in March 2022 to promote exchange among the three majors (Nursing, Radiological Technology, and Medical Laboratory Science) and to motivate students to do research. The second event was designed to support graduate students who are about to pursue their research. The theme is “What is the life of graduate students like?” Second-year graduate students in each field gave presentations on their research topics, daily life, and the problems they have experienced so far. Undergraduate students also participated in the event, and not only they became familiar with graduate school, but also some of them even intend to take the graduate course.
